Y'ALL EXPLAIN THIS TO ME-DAMMIT!

Either a whole lot of people are simply lying through their teeth while they feather their nests in ermine or I'm just dumber than a post and don't get it.

The medical profession continues to scream "Malpractice Crisis", right?

And their handmaidens, from the President of this country to the leader of the U.S. Senate ( He being a cardio-thoracic surgeon and Prezzy WannaBe-Hmmmm...) to our Governor and our state House and Senate leaders, as they receive boat loads of political grease the skids money, are doing all they can to help these poor, pitiful put upon souls who cry they can no longer make a living in the current "frivolous lawsuit" climate.

Any day now, I am certain, yes indeed, certain I say, that you'll see a surgeon or hospital administrator out on the Savannah Motor Mile trading that Benz in for something less expensive, less burdensome like a Chevy or a Ford.

And as I type, here in Charleston and the Tri-County area alone, there is over $800 Million-That's right, Eight Zip Zip Million with an M- of new hospital construction either being completed, under construction or permitted and on the books to begin. And that doesn't include what's going to be paid to equip, outfit and staff these White Coat Temples but that number will shove the final pricetag way over One Billion!! And this kind of medical building boom is going on all over the country.

Holy Scalpel, Batman! How can this be happening? How can they pay for this? They say they're going out of business, they can't make a living.

Well Robin, they're not going to pay for it-You and your family are.

And this just in, even as they lobby, squeal, sqirm and demand legislative protection from malpractice suits, it was disclosed last week that 'Wrong Site' surgeries are on the rise. In other words, they're cutting into the wrong leg, wrong arm, wrong nerve, wrong spot more and more in spite of being warned to shape their acts up.

Who says this? None other than Dennis O'Leary who is head of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, an independent liscensing  and permitting agency which inspects more than 15,000 hospitals and surgical centers nationally and also sets patient safety requirements and guidelines which its members and staff voluntarily agree to be bound by (so they say-Wink...Wink...)

O'Leary also says this 'Wrong Site' debacle is obviously "underreported" and is "but the tip of a much bigger iceberg". Ouch!

And with almost 14% (if not more) and growing of our Gross National Product being spent on health care (almost 3 times what we spend on military and defense budgets!), these trends will continue to rise, not fall.

So, let me get this straight. Surgeons and Docs are having trouble making a living because there are "too many lawsuits" but they keep making more and more hurtful and often life-ending or life-compromising mistakes while there is an unprecedented, white-hot hospital building surge  going on and their pals in the state and federal governments are providing them cover so they can keep at it.

Is that right?

As I've said many , many times and I'll say again, "By God, don't pee on my back and tell me it's raining!"

What a crock.
