Smith and Doakes v. Highway Patrol-A young married couple was traveling through South Carolina on their way to be in a friends' wedding in Virginia. While turning off of the Interstate to buy gas, they were broadsided and killed by a State Trooper. The highway patrolman was traveling over 110 miles per hour on a secondary road while pursuing an individual on a minor traffic violation. A lawsuit was filed and settled under the South Carolina Tort Claims Act.
