Plowing Ahead

Fortunately, or is it unfortunately, my law practice is booming. I'm not complaining, just happy to be working in this day and age. Please don't think we're ever letting grass grow under our feet on Scott Street.

Actually, I guess it's MISfortune that generates my type of law practice and that's never happy, but we work our hardest getting our clients' cases to resolution and the compensation they're due. We're working as hard as can be with much success in moving our clients' causes and cases forward.

Much new and interesting work has come across my desk for review and evaluation and it is often difficult to decide which new medical malpractice cases we can take into our fold. We're a small firm, but well-respected in my field of personal injury. I can't take on too many of these cases at once because they require a lot of expertise and knowledge which comes through thorough investigation and lots of research on very technical and complicated issues such as ambulatory surgery,  laparoscopic surgery techniques, bariatric surgery, health care industry standards, protocols and patient care.

Did you know? We get at least 500 to 700 new calls each year (I think it is actually pushing 1,000) about medical malpractice matters. Obviously, we cannot take but a very small fraction of those potential cases. In some instances, I begin investigation into a potential med mal claim and my medical experts may report to me that in fact there is no malpractice, but a known complication of a particular procedure. In those situations, I have to tell the client that there is no case and no possible claim.  I have to do my homework on each and every file that we take. No lawyer can afford the time, the expense or compromise legal integrity by pursuing an unsubstantiated claim.

Of course, that's in addition to many, many other calls about every other type of Personal Injury case - car wrecks, slips and falls, assaults, dog bites, you name it.  Aside from knowing "the law", personal injury cases also require a lot of medical knowledge to gauge the continuing medical care and rehabilitation my clients may require in as they recover from their injuries.

It's interesting to see the range and scope of these calls but we've got to make sure we can have a good shot at helping those who call and we have to make sure that we're also properly looking after our current clients' interests.

Call us. If we can help, we will try our best. That's a promise.
