Feral Cat Roundup!
Nothing to do early Saturday, November 15th? (The Heels play at Maryland so I'm free till kick off.) Join us for something that's loads of fun that my wife and daughter have talked me into - Feral Cat Roundup here in Mount Pleasant.
I know a lot of you are saying what the heck is that? Others are saying "surely he's lost his mind!". Actually, we're just being practical. With an office a block away from the Shem Creek municipal boat ramp and a half dozen delicious sea food restaurants, we have more than our share of stray cats (feral colonies) on Scott Street.
We love animals but there is such a thing as too many cats, and goodness knows they reproduce lightening fast. Over the past couple of years, we've taken it upon ourselves to limit their population. We've had a fair number of them "snipped and clipped" for which they are usually none too happy. After a few weeks they seem to forget what it is they're missing and they're back for the dinner bell.
Nothing gets the heart pumping faster than trapping a really mad 6lb. Tabby with talons for claws. Usually we do one at a time, since its pretty exhausting for all involved. However, we're going to have a massive roundup in Mt. Pleasant on Saturday, November 15th.
Pet Helpers is sponsoring a special spay neuter clinic for our feral colonies and giving a volume discount! If trapping cats is not your "thing", please consider a gift to Pet Helpers to underwrite an operation for a kitty or two. Or for a good laugh, just show up and cheer us on.
Smokin' is one of the prettiest Scott Street strays. She's our front porch greeter . Unfortunately she had a litter of kittens before she got spayed, but one of neighbor business owners found homes for all of them. Smokin's content to just lounge here; the food's pretty tasty. You may notice her right ear is clipped. Vets sometimes clip the corner of the ear to tell people that she's been "fixed" and there's no threat of a litter of kittens
